Household chores are such a nuisance. I have a ridiculously long list of chores that I constantly drag my feet to get done. Laundry, am I right? But that’s not what we are talking about here. I’m talking about household chores that are neglected because you actually forget. Being the one who lives in your home, it’s easy to go blind to small, polite messes. Before your next deep clean, consider these commonly forgot chores:
1. Carpet Edges
Weekly or biweekly vacuuming is great maintenance for your carpet, but you might be neglecting those corners. Edges and corners start to fill with dust when the vacuum can’t reach them. While it might not be a huge concern because your guests don’t spend their time stomping around along the walls, the edges still need some attention. Dust particles settle into the fibers of your carpet and build up quickly. Every once in a while, remove the wand from your vacuum and get those edges real nice.
2. Under Sinks
Areas away from eye level are often neglected. Out of sight, out of mind. Under sinks can be a real problem if they are neglected for too long. If moisture is trapped you are looking at a mold problem. Clear out those cabinets now and again to keep things clean and dry and make sure you check for leaks or other mishaps.
3. Dryer Vents
A clogged dryer vent is just a cry for a major home disaster. The heat those machines give off mixed with the flammable nature of dryer lint is one nasty combo. It might be a hassle to get the vent cleaned out, but trust me it is a much better alternative to the after math of a home fire.
Even more so, cleaning appliances. It’s hard to remember that the machine working for you needs a little TLC too. Dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, garbage disposals; they all have to be cleaned to make sure they are running properly. Don’t forget other appliances like your stove, oven and fridge. Give the machines some attention so they keep working for you.
5. Under Furniture
Parts of your flooring that aren’t trafficked still need your attention. Even underneath couches and ovens. I know that is a lot to ask for a common chore. It doesn’t need done every week, but make sure it gets done some time or another. You might get a wild hair and want to rearrange furniture and find that your carpets have grown dingy with the dust and lack of attention.
Blinds are difficult to clean making them even more likely to be neglected. Dust collects quickly and becomes airborne every time you go to pull the shade. Those particles aren’t good to be sucking into your lungs. Do your best to remember to keep up with the dusting.
